WHITLEY BAY MAN WITH 89 CONVICTIONS JAILED FOR VIOLENCE AND RESTRAINING ORDER BREACH
A man named Royston Bell, age 41, from North Parade in Whitley Bay, has been sentenced to jail after committing a series of violent acts against his former partner.
Bell, who has a long history of violence with 89 previous convictions including for violence and breaching restraining orders related to the same victim, pleaded guilty to charges of intentional strangulation, assault by beating, and breaching a restraining order.
He was sentenced to 21 months in prison.
The incident involved Bell threatening to pour milk over his ex, strangling and assaulting her, and behaving aggressively outside her home.
The victim described how Bell pressed on her windpipe, causing her to struggle to breathe, and later pulled her around by her clothing while threatening to break her arm.
The woman managed to escape and called for help after Bell tried to follow her when she attempted to leave.
The court heard that the relationship was toxic, and Bell was under the influence of heroin and cocaine at the time of the offenses.
Despite his criminal history and restraining order, Bell's violence continued, with the police being called after witnesses observed part of the assault.
The court emphasized that Bell’s restraining order remains in effect.
The sentencing also reflects his previous violent behavior, and the court noted that Bell recognizes he has serious problems with drugs.
