ROY MILLIST AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN HEREFORD
A 71-year-old resident of Hereford, Roy Millist, has been sentenced to a substantial term of seven years in prison following his conviction on serious sexual offence charges. The charges stem from allegations that he engaged in multiple acts of sexual assault by penetration against a young woman who was described as defenseless, with these assaults occurring over an extended period.
The case against Millist was carefully and thoroughly investigated by law enforcement officials based in Hereford.
After a detailed inquiry, he was found guilty in October of three counts of sexual assault involving penetrative acts.
The conviction highlights the significant efforts undertaken by the police to uncover facts surrounding these distressing incidents and to ensure justice was served.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court has imposed a lifetime restraining order against Millist, preventing him from making any contact with the victim.
This measure aims to safeguard her from further harm and to ensure her safety moving forward.
Detective Constable Emma O’Hare, who was involved in the case, expressed her views on the impact of the proceedings, stating, “Millist committed these terrible crimes against a defenceless young woman over a sustained period of time.” She emphasized her support for the victim and her family, acknowledging their courage and bravery in coming forward to report the crimes and cooperate with authorities.
Connor O’Hare further reflected that, “While I welcome the verdict, I must pay true tribute to the victim and her family who have shown immense courage and bravery in telling the police about his crimes and allowing us to bring him to justice.” He added, “My hope is that the conviction and this substantial prison sentence will bring some measure of comfort to those whose lives are irrevocably damaged by his predatory and sickening actions.” The officer also underscored the importance of justice serving as a reminder that abuse cannot and will not be tolerated or forgotten over time.
“This sentence should serve as a strong message that abuse will be investigated thoroughly and prosecuted aggressively.
Survivors are strong, determined and have our full support and our investigations will continue to uncover the truth and give them the justice they deserve,” she concluded.
