June 2001 Paedophile jailed A pervert has been jailed for seven years after a judge told him he had deliberately targeted and preyed on young boys. At Chelmsford Crown Court Roy Kemp, 64, of Ashley Court, Ashley Road, Dovercourt, admitted: Five indecent assaults on boys between1973 and 1985, one charge of possessing a quantity of indecent pictures of children, One of taking indecent pictures of children between January 1997 and August last year One of possessing computer-generated pictures of children under 16. At an earlier hearing, he denied 11 charges of indecent assault on boys, four indecent assaults on girls and two charges of taking indecent pictures of children. His not guilty pleas to these charges were accepted by the prosecution and they will lie on the file. Kim Jenkins, mitigating, said Kemp’s guilty pleas had saved his victims the ordeal of giving evidence in a public court. At the end of the hearing, Judge Pearson turned to the public gallery where some of Kemp’s victims were. The judge told them: “This has not been an easy experience for you. When you were visited by the police you had to take a very difficult decision. That decision was not only to tell but to relive those experiences. “It was a brave decision. It was the right decision. This court is grateful to you all.”
