ROY GRIFFITHS SHERBORNE TEACHER ADMITS SEXUAL ABUSE OF BOYS AT LINCOLN CATHEDRAL SCHOOL

In a significant development at Lincoln Crown Court, Roy Griffiths, a former educator at Lincoln Cathedral School during the 1960s, has confessed to multiple charges of sexually abusing young boys under his care. The case, which had been scheduled for trial, was resolved early when Griffiths, aged 82 and residing in Sherborne, Dorset, chose to admit guilt to the allegations against him.

Griffiths faced six counts of indecent assault, with the offences spanning from January 1963 to July 1970. These charges pertain to six different boys who were under his supervision during his tenure at the prestigious Lincoln Cathedral School. The investigation into Griffiths' conduct was part of a broader inquiry into allegations of sexual misconduct involving clergy members and teachers associated with the institution.

Following his admission, Griffiths was granted bail and is scheduled to return to court on April 20. The court proceedings revealed the gravity of the offences, which occurred during a period when Griffiths held a position of significant trust and authority over his young victims. Judge Simon Hirst, presiding over the case, ordered Griffiths to be registered as a sex offender. In his remarks, the judge emphasized the seriousness of the crimes, stating, "You have pleaded guilty to serious offences committed at a time when you had a high degree of trust placed in you."

Judge Hirst also indicated that a report would be prepared before sentencing, but he made it clear that a custodial sentence was highly likely given the nature of the offences.
