RUTHERGLEN SEX ATTACKER ROY CLARK GUILTY OF MULTIPLE CHARGES IN GLASGOW AND RUTHERGLEN
In June 2022, a disturbing case involving Roy Clark, a man from Rutherglen, came to a conclusion at the High Court in Glasgow. Clark, a former roofing company boss, was convicted of a series of serious sexual offences that spanned several years and took place across different neighborhoods, including Shettleston and Easterhouse in Glasgow, as well as his hometown of Rutherglen.Clark, who openly admitted to being a 'womaniser,' faced a lengthy trial where he denied all allegations. Throughout the proceedings, he maintained his innocence, claiming that his victim was not truthful about the events. Despite his denials, the jury found him guilty of seven charges, which included rape, sexual assault, indecent assault, and physical assault. These offences had caused significant trauma to the victim, who endured a harrowing ordeal over an extended period.
During the trial, Clark was on bail but appeared visibly distressed, almost on the verge of tears, as the judge, Lord Beckett, remanded him into custody pending sentencing. Clark also contested allegations of drunken rages and outbursts, asserting that he was not responsible for such behaviour. The court also considered other charges, but jurors returned not proven verdicts on allegations of assault and threats against another woman, leading to their acquittal on those counts.
As the case concluded, Clark’s sentencing was scheduled for the following month. The conviction marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to address and combat sexual violence within the community, highlighting the importance of justice for victims and the accountability of offenders.
