April 2013 James Sim’s young abuse victim became paedophile A man has admitted sexually abusing a child who was later jailed himself in adulthood for abusing young boys. James Sim, 45, from Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, abused his victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, between 1990 and 1997. He also admitted abusing another boy in 1980 when that boy was aged seven and of possessing 1,009 indecent images of children on his computer. Sentence on Sim was deferred and he was remanded in custody. The High Court in Glasgow heard how Sim abused the boy, who is now in his 20s and serving a prison sentence, between the ages of eight and 13. ‘Felt dirty’ Sim made video recording of himself and his victim while babysitting and told the boy not to tell anyone. The court was told that when he was an adult, the victim saw a video of himself and Sim naked. He reckoned it had been taken when he was 11 or 12. He had no idea he had been filmed and said he “felt dirty and embarrassed”. Afterwards the victim told his mother what had happened and showed her the video. His mother confronted Sim and said: “How could you do this. We trusted you.” When interviewed by police, Sim admitted abusing and told detectives: “I didn’t think he enjoyed it, but he never said no.”
