Ross McKay

Girvan Sexual Abuser

March 2019 Sleazy OAP, 72, who took pics of Ayr schoolgirls in mini-skirts told ‘you’re guilty all day long’ A pensioner who took pictures of schoolgirls in mini skirts will be on the sex offenders’ register for the next three years, writes Edwin Lawrence. Sleazy retired architect Ross McKay will also be kept under court supervision for the same period. McKay, 72, insisted he was innocent of the sordid behaviour but he was found guilty after a trial last month. Sheriff John Montgomery told McKay: “You have been convicted of conduct which, in my estimation, contains a substantial sexual element and a significant sexual aspect by clandestinely taking photos of female schoolgirls wearing short skirts. “At 72 years of age you really should be able to control yourself more appropriately than you have done by indulging in this sort of behaviour.” Sheriff Montgomery warned McKay: “I detect an air of defiance from you, both at your trial and in what you have told the author of your criminal justice social work report. “My advice to you is keep a low profile. Do not put yourself in a position where it can be construed you have the aim of self-gratification.” Defence lawyer Gillian McBlane successfully argued against the imposition of a stringent sex offender prevention order against her client. This was requested by depute fiscal Vicky McMillan, and would have kept McKay out of public parks and well away from schools. Ms McBlane said: “He is first offender and there is little to suggest he presents a significant risk to the public.” Sheriff Montgomery reminded her: “He continues to deny responsiblility.” But Ms McBlane maintained: “He very much recognises the authority of the court and he has assured me of his commitment to any order you might impose.” McKay, of Ardlochan Terrace in Maidens, insisted at his trial that he had not taken the photos of Belmont Academy schoolgirls in mini skirts that were found on his phone. He also denied stopping his car in Peggieshill Road to take the images, although the court heard evidence of a vehicle with the same registration as McKay’s parked there. The offences took place in mid-2017 and again in March 2018. Sheriff Montgomery told McKay at the trial: “There is overwhelming evidence it was you in your car. “You’re guilty all day long.”
