ROSS JONES SENTENCED IN EAST KILBRIDE FOR HORRIFIC SEX CRIMES AS TEENAGER
Ross Jones, a young man from East Kilbride, has been handed a substantial prison sentence of four and a half years following his conviction for a series of disturbing sexual offenses committed during his mid-teen years. The court proceedings revealed that Jones, who was between 15 and 16 years old at the time, engaged in the sexual abuse of three young girls, with one victim reportedly only eight or nine years old when the abuse took place.According to court records, Jones's crimes spanned from November 2013 to June 2014, during which he raped two of his victims amidst a pattern of assault and exploitation. One of these assaults occurred inside a residential property, where Jones molested and raped a young girl. In another incident, a girl was pushed to the ground by Jones, who then restrained her arms and lay on top of her, further demonstrating the severity and brutality of his actions.
The court was informed that Jones was subsequently detained at Polmont young offenders' institution, where he remained during the legal proceedings. His legal representative described the crimes as 'horrendous,' acknowledging their gravity but emphasizing that they occurred during his adolescence, a period often characterized by impulsivity and immaturity. Despite this, the judge, Lord Burns, underscored the seriousness of the offenses and the need for ongoing supervision, stating that Jones would be monitored for an additional four years after his release to ensure public safety.
Initially, Jones denied all charges, but he was ultimately convicted of four counts of rape and sexual assault. The court considered a social enquiry report that recommended an extended sentence, reflecting concerns about the potential risk Jones posed to society. Given his current age of 22 and the heinous nature of his crimes, the judge determined that a lengthy custodial sentence was necessary to protect the community and serve justice for the victims.
