September 2014: This offender has now been released and is living near to Aberystwyth in West Wales November 2008 Former Pensby man jailed indefinitely for sexually abusing two young girls A former Wirral man who sexually abused two young girls, has been sent to jail indefinitely. A judge told Ross Adams – formerly known as John Cousins – that he poses a significant risk of serious harm to the public and imposed an indeterminate sentence for public protection. Judge David Harris, QC, ordered that 57-year-old Adams must serve two and a half years before he can apply to the Parole Board to be considered for release. But the judge told him: “It is unlikely in the extreme that you will be able to demonstrate by that time that you are no longer a risk to society and justify the Parole Board releasing you” He also ordered Adams to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life. Adams, formerly of Fishers Lane, Pensby, had been convicted by a Liverpool Crown Court jury of six offences of sexual assault. Adams repeatedly molested one girl beginning when she was aged just six years old and abused the other girl when she was 14 and 16 years old. Sophie Smith, prosecuting, said that Adams used to live in Pensby as did the older girl, and the other victim lives in nearby Moreton. He used to be friendly with the younger girl and bought her gifts. “This was a way to get close to her so he could target her for his own sexual pleasure. “He used to tell her he loved her and when he started behaving inappropriately he told her to keep it a secret.” His behaviour continued until she was eight and she finally confided in a neighbour, and her parents and the police were told. Adams, who was living in Pensby with his girlfriend, was arrested and denied the allegations. At the same time as he was abusing the first girl he was also molesting the other victim, said Miss Smith. When arrested her denied the allegations and he told the jury that they were untrue. Trevor Parry-Jones, defending, said when he is freed from prison he will have nothing. His partner is not standing by him and when he is released he will have to re-commence his life.
