ROSANNA AWAN FROM LEICESTERSHIRE SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR PREDATORY ABUSE OF 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A disturbing case of sexual abuse has come to light involving Rosanna Awan, a cheerleading coach from Leicestershire, who exploited her position of trust to repeatedly assault a young girl. The victim, only 13 years old at the time, was subjected to inappropriate touching and other forms of sexual misconduct by Awan, who was in her twenties during the period of the offenses.
The abuse was brought to public attention when the young girl, now an adult, decided to report the incidents to Leicestershire Police in 2019.
Her courage in coming forward was instrumental in initiating a thorough investigation that eventually led to Awan's arrest and prosecution.
Rosanna Awan, now aged 34, faced trial at Leicester Crown Court in October 2024.
During the proceedings, she was found guilty of four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, as well as a charge of inciting or causing a child to participate in sexual acts.
The court's judgment was delivered on December 4, when Awan was sentenced to a decade behind bars for her crimes.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Catherine Anderson, who led the investigation, issued a statement emphasizing the gravity of the case.
She described Awan’s conduct as predatory, highlighting how a person in a trusted position had taken advantage of a vulnerable young girl.
Anderson expressed her satisfaction that the victim had the strength to report the abuse, despite the many years that had passed since the incidents occurred.
She also urged others who might be in similar situations to come forward, assuring the public that the police would handle such reports with seriousness and thoroughness.
In addition to her prison sentence, Awan was subjected to a 10-year restraining order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restrict her contact with minors and monitor her behavior.
Furthermore, she will be registered as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing oversight of her activities and preventing further harm to potential victims.
