MAN JAILED FOR 90S CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A man responsible for abusing a girl from the age of about five has been given a lengthy prison sentence.Barrymore James’s offenses started around 1990 and continued until approximately 1998, with some episodes happening two or three times a week.
The victim, now an adult, came forward to police in 2021 to report the abuse, indicating that James had stopped his actions when she was around 13.
In interviews with officers from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit’s (CAIU) non-recent team, she described how James made her smoke crack cocaine and heroin prior to committing the abuses.
She also recalled being shown pornography on multiple occasions.
Although James initially denied these claims during police questioning, he was charged with several sexual offenses.
At Leicester Crown Court on July 22, the 65-year-old was convicted of 12 counts of indecent assault, two counts of sexual activity with a girl under 13, and two counts of indecency with a child.
Today, Monday, October 20, James whose address is listed as no fixed abode was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Detective Constable Katie Harris of the non-recent team stated, “The crimes carried out by James have had a lasting impact on the victim, who showed a lot of strength and courage in re-living the abuse in front of a jury.
“Thankfully the account she was able to provide was key in ensuring James was found guilty of all counts, meaning he’s now serving time in prison.
“It’s never too late to report sexual abuse and I hope today’s outcome has provided a degree of closure to the victim and allows her to move on as best she can.”
