LEIGHTON BUZZARD MAN RONJOHN BHOWMICK JAILED FOR ONLINE GROOMING AT HOTEL MEETUP

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Leighton Buzzard, Ronjohn Bhowmick, a 60-year-old resident of Miletree Court, was sentenced to prison after engaging in online grooming activities with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl. The incident unfolded when Bhowmick used the social media platform Facebook to establish a connection with the young girl, initially engaging her in casual conversations about her schoolwork and homework.

As the exchanges progressed, the tone of their communication shifted from innocent chats to more explicit and sexual content, which Bhowmick continued through text messages and WhatsApp. His intent became increasingly clear as he arranged to meet the girl in person, booking a hotel with the explicit purpose of engaging in sexual activity.

However, the entire scenario was part of an undercover operation conducted by a paedophile hunting team. When Bhowmick was arrested at his home address, he attempted to dismiss his actions by claiming that “he was just being silly and sending messages,” a statement that failed to sway the court.

During the hearing at Luton Crown Court, Bhowmick pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a girl under 16 years of age following grooming. The court sentenced him to three years in prison, emphasizing the severity of his actions and the danger posed to minors.

Furthermore, upon his release, Bhowmick will be subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his activities and prevent any further offenses of this nature. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and community groups to combat online grooming and protect vulnerable children from predators.
