In a case that has spanned over a decade and a half, Ronald Bowman, a man residing in Newcastle, specifically near the Byker and Heaton neighborhoods, has been convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a young girl.The victim, now 26 years old and from Gateshead, courageously shared her harrowing story to shed light on the abuse she endured as a child, and to encourage others to come forward.
Bowman, who was 51 years old at the time of the abuse and is now 67, is currently serving a two-year prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple charges, including indecent assault and gross indecency with a child.
His crimes, which he believed he had concealed successfully, came to light after the victim, Lisa, decided to break her silence.
Lisa’s childhood was marred by her uncle’s predatory behavior.
She recounted that her grooming began when she was just six years old.
During this period, Bowman, who was in his late forties at the time, manipulated her into forming a close bond, making her believe he was a trusted family member.
The relationship was characterized by seemingly innocent activities, such as playing hide-and-seek, but these games were laced with sinister undertones.
Bowman would impose 'forfeits' on Lisa, and would often tell her that “best friends don’t tell anybody anything,” which she, as a young child, believed.

She described feeling terrified and confused, yet afraid to speak out due to her loyalty to her family and her fear of not being believed.

Her family noticed her change in behavior, but she initially told them only that she and Bowman had a falling out.
