January 2020 Hackney ex-army officer who groomed girls online jailed after teacher overheard victim call him ‘sugar daddy’ An ex-army officer from Hackney who groomed underage girls online has been jailed for seven years. Roland Lamin’s offending came to light when one girl was overheard at school by a teacher, talking about a man buying her things and referring to him as their ‘sugar daddy’. Lamin, 29, of Redwald Road, Clapton, was found guilty after a trial of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, causing a child watch a sexual act, engaging in sexual communication with a child, making indecent images of a child and sexual assault. Over the course of the case, he also breached his interim sexual risk order. Today (Monday, January 27), Lamin was sentenced to seven years imprisonment at Snaresbrook Crown Court. The discharged army officer would use social media to target his victims, schoolgirls aged under 16 years. Once he built up a rapport with the girls, his messaging became sexual. He would send sexual explicit photographs and videos of himself and ask for sexually explicit pictures in return. With one victim, depraved Lamin recorded Facetime calls they had in which he encouraged her to touch herself sexually. November 2019 Pervert guilty of sexual offences against girls A man has been found guilty of sexual offences against children after assaulting a teenage girl, and sending explicit images to other victims Roland Lamin, 29 (06.08.1990), of Redwald Road, Hackney E5 was found guilty of the following offences between August 2016 to June 2019, after a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, which concluded on Thursday, 31 October: One count of causing a child to look at an image of sexual activity. One count of causing a child to engage in a sexual act. One count of engaging in sexual communication with a child Two counts of sexual assault on a female (aged 15) one victim Two counts of breaching a sexual risk order He admitted to one count of possession of indecent images of a child at the start of the trial. He was found not guilty of one count of sexual communication with a child and one count of causing a child to look at an image of sexual activity, relating to a third girl. Lamin was remanded in custody to be sentenced at the same court on Friday, 22 November. The charges relate to two victims aged between 14 and 15. The court heard that Lamin met and contacted his victims through Snapchat. After initially sending friendly messages, they became more sexual, and he began sending explicit images of himself and requesting images in return. He told a number of the victims that he was younger than he was. He met one of the victims, and sexually assaulted her in his car. His offending came to light when one girl was overheard at school by a teacher, talking about a man buying her things and referring to him as their ‘sugar daddy’. The matter as reported to police. Stoke Newington CID led the initial investigation, before officers from Central Specialist Crime took primacy. Lamin was identified and first arrested in Wiltshire on 23 January 2018. On 9 April 2019 at Thames Magistrates’ Court, Lamin was issued with an interim Sexual Risk Order which prohibited him from contacting or communicating with any girl under the age of 16, and from using the internet and social media platforms. Despite this, he began talking to a 14-year-old girl on Snapchat. He arranged to meet her in Bristol in June 2019, but she did not show up after changing her mind. The matter came to the attention of the local force, who passed their information to the Met. Lamin was arrested again on 18 June 2019.
