ROGER VYE FROM DOVER AND ODESY SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Dover and Odsey, Roger Vye, a 55-year-old man, was handed a severe prison sentence after admitting to a series of heinous crimes involving very young children. The sentencing took place on Friday, June 19, at Woolwich Crown Court, where Vye was sentenced to 16 years behind bars for his extensive and vile offenses.Vye’s criminal activities came to light following his arrest on October 22, 2019, in London. Authorities had tracked him down after he had arranged to sexually abuse a young child, prompting a thorough investigation. A subsequent search was carried out at his residence in Odsey, during which electronic devices were seized and sent for forensic examination. The analysis revealed a disturbing collection of indecent images of children, confirming Vye’s long-standing interest in the sexual exploitation of minors. It was also discovered that he had shared some of these illicit images with other offenders via online platforms.
The investigation uncovered further evidence linking Vye to a case of historic sexual abuse involving a child in the Kent area, with abuse occurring over an extended period in 2009 and 2010. This revelation added to the gravity of his crimes and underscored the extent of his criminal behavior.
Prior to the sentencing, Vye appeared at an earlier hearing on January 8 at Inner London Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges. These included attempted rape of a child under 13, two counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, sexual assault of a child under 13, and facilitating or arranging child sex offenses. Additionally, he admitted to distributing indecent photographs of children, making such images, possessing extreme pornographic material, and possessing prohibited images of minors.
In total, Vye was sentenced to 16 years in prison, with an additional five years on extended license. As part of his punishment, he will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which prohibits him from associating with any child under the age of 18. Furthermore, he will be registered as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
