ROGER LONEY OF BRISTOL SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGERS
A man from Henbury, Bristol, Roger Loney, aged 45 of Satchfield Close, has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of abusing two teenage girls.Loney denied the allegations, but a jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting one girl and committing three sexual assaults on the second.
Judge James Patrick sentenced him to three years in jail, banned him from working with children and vulnerable adults, and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.
Prosecutor Sam Jones told Bristol Crown Court that Loney was found guilty of inappropriately touching both victims.
Both girls provided impact statements describing the lasting effects of the abuse.
One victim said: “The trauma left me feeling like an alien, like I forgot to be a normal individual...
I felt very fragile and concerned.
I’ve stopped any form of getting to know men.” She expressed hope that Loney would learn from his actions and avoid making the same mistakes.
Defense attorney Derek Perry, stated that Loney, who is of previous good character, remains in denial about the offences.
Perry explained that Loney, a Jamaican national, had felt "trapped, isolated and lonely" after moving to the UK.
The court was told that Loney’s father died last October, and that a combination of COVID-19 and ongoing court proceedings prevented Loney from attending his father’s funeral.
Perry also mentioned that Loney has not seen his elderly mother in Jamaica for about two years.
DC Mike Coleman, the officer handling the case, commended the bravery of the victims, saying: “The victims in this case have shown a great deal of bravery during this investigation and trial.
I hope that the sentence given to Loney today will bring them some closure.” He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to taking such offences seriously, emphasizing that justice would always be pursued for victims.
