MAIDSTONE SCHOOL CARETAKER ROGER BROWN SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN MAIDSTONE
In a case that has shocked the community of Maidstone, Roger Brown, a school caretaker and youth cricket coach, was found guilty of downloading and possessing highly disturbing images of child abuse. The incident unfolded at Maidstone Grammar School, where Brown was also involved in the combined cadet force, raising concerns about safety and oversight within the educational environment.Brown, a 50-year-old bachelor residing in Greenfields, Maidstone, was arrested after authorities traced his online activity. It was revealed that he used his credit card to access illicit material, which led to his identification and subsequent detention. During the investigation, police discovered that Brown had filled out a registration form with his personal details, including his name, address, and a password labeled “Loose CC4,” which was linked to the Loose Cricket Club, where he served as a youth cricket coach. His email address was also recorded during this process.
Authorities conducted a thorough search of Brown’s residence at the school gatehouse in August of the previous year. During the search, police confiscated his computer equipment and other electronic devices for forensic analysis. The investigation uncovered a disturbing collection of images, totaling 193 in number, depicting children in various stages of abuse. These images were categorized into different levels of severity, with one at the highest level of five, 16 at level four, 29 at level three, four at level two, and 93 at level one.
Brown faced nine charges of making indecent images of children, charges he denied. However, a jury convicted him last month, leading to his sentencing. During the court proceedings, Recorder Jeremy Gold, QC, emphasized the gravity of Brown’s actions, stating that if Brown had not admitted guilt, an immediate prison sentence would have been imposed. The judge acknowledged the difficulty in confronting such secretive and repulsive behavior, recognizing Brown’s apparent shame and remorse.
As part of his punishment, Brown was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for two years. He was also ordered to participate in a sex offender rehabilitation program and will be under supervision for three years. Additionally, his name will be entered onto the sex offenders’ register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The case has raised serious concerns about safeguarding within the community and the importance of vigilance in protecting children from exploitation and abuse.
