BRISTOL MAN JAILED FOR ABUSING YOUNG GIRLS IN THE 1990S AFTER VICTIM'S PSYCHIC READING DISCLOSURE

A sexual deviant who used two young girls as ‘sex toys’ was finally brought to justice after a victim disclosed his crimes during a psychic reading.Roger Britton systematic abused the two girls during the 1990s “targeting occasions to abuse them” at his home and workplace.Now 59, Britton has been locked up for 11 years after he admitted 14 charges of indecent assaults and gross indecency on the children, who finally spoke out about what he had done last year.Bristol Crown Court heard how he abused one of the girls from the age of seven through to 11 and another from the age of nine to 14.One of his victim’s had disclosed what had happened to her during her childhood during a psychic reading, before a second victim came forward.Britton was confronted about what had happened and admitted everything before sending out a text message apologising to one of his victims.Prosecutor Sam Jones told the court how Britton would make one of the girls dress in a particular nightdress when carrying out the abuse.Another of his victims, now both adults, said Britton’s assaults “made her feel sick” and that her “stomach would turn”.In a victim impact statement read to the court, one victim said how she suffered from depression – even attempting suicide – and struggled to trust men after what Britton had done to her.Defending Catherine Spedding told the court how Britton had immediately confessed what he had done and pleaded guilty to the offences.She said he had been a hardworking family man and expressed his remorse at his actions and he had not offended in this way since the 1990s.“He is extremely sorry about what happened,” she told the court.“He is a man with a number of very serious health issues, but he accepts what will have to happen and he will have to serve his sentence.”Jailing him for 11 years, Judge Mark Horton told Britton he was a sexual deviant who had done “catastrophic damage to the girls”.“You stole the innocence and emotional stability of the childhood you robbed them of,” the judge told Britton of Stillingfleet Road, Hartcliffe.“You targeted the occasions to abuse them.“As young girls they were sensitive, immature and vulnerable and you seemed to treat them as your own sex toys.“You were quite willing to pursue your own sexual gratification at all times.”Britton was ordered to sign the sexual offenders register and was given a sexual harm prevention order for an indefinite period, banning him from unsupervised contact with females aged under 16.
