ROGER ALLEN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES IN SHEFFIELD
A 60-year-old man named Roger Allen has been formally sentenced to a lengthy period of imprisonment after a court in Sheffield found him guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving a minor.The sentencing occurred at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday, 9 May, where Allen received a sentence of 20 years behind bars following his admission to a series of disturbing crimes.
Allen was charged with and pleaded guilty to a comprehensive list of child sexual offences.
These included four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, two counts of rape, three counts of making indecent images of a child, one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and causing a child to watch a sexual act.
The indictment also included a charge of attempted rape, an assault by penetration, causing a person to partake in sexual activity without consent, and possessing an extreme pornographic image.
The severity of these charges underscores the gravity of Allen’s criminal conduct.
The victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, came forward motivated by a desire to stop ongoing abuse and seek justice.
Their brave reporting led to Allen’s arrest and subsequent investigation.
During a search of Allen’s property, investigators uncovered multiple electronic devices containing indecent images and videos depicting children, further corroborating the allegations.
Detective Constable Jason Earl, who is part of Sheffield’s Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) team, publicly commended the victim’s courage.
He remarked, “I wish to take this opportunity, at the conclusion of legal proceedings, to commend the bravery of the victim in this case.
They have shown immense courage in coming forward to report years of horrific sexual abuse, then demonstrated enormous strength throughout the investigation.
It is my belief that had they not come forward when they did, Allen’s serious sexual abuse would likely have continued.” He went on to emphasize the profound impact of child sexual abuse, stating, “It cannot be underestimated the significant toll that child sexual abuse has on victims – it irreparably changes a child’s life and in this case, Allen took full advantage for his own disgraceful sexual criminality.” Despite Allen’s guilty pleas, Detective Earl pointed out that the convicted individual showed little remorse, making it clear that Allen did not acknowledge the pain he caused.
Following the sentencing, authorities included Allen’s name on the Sex Offenders Register and imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), limiting his future conduct and contact.
Allen, who was formerly residing at Abbey Brook Gardens in Sheffield, was held accountable for his actions, which have left a lasting impact on his victim and the community.
The court’s verdict aims not only to punish but also to serve as a warning against such heinous crimes in Sheffield and beyond.
