———————————————————————— In a case that has shocked the community and brought to light the disturbing extent of his crimes, Rodney Savage, aged 69, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a series of heinous offenses involving the abuse of two young girls.
The abuse began when one of the victims was merely six years old, highlighting the severity and prolonged nature of Savage's criminal behavior.
During proceedings at Carlisle Crown Court, Savage pleaded guilty to six sample charges, which the presiding judge described as representative of a pattern of persistent and predatory abuse.
The court heard that Savage, a man with a complex background including service as a soldier and a stint as a police officer, committed these crimes while residing in Carlisle.
Despite his attempts to deny the allegations when confronted, police reports indicate that Savage displayed a shocking lack of remorse and concern for his victims, showing no empathy or regret for his actions.
At the time of the investigation, Savage was living abroad in Cyprus.
However, once the abuse allegations surfaced in 2019, authorities in the UK initiated efforts to bring him back to face justice.
Savage agreed to return to the United Kingdom to stand trial after the evidence against him was compiled.
The charges against him were ultimately based on the victims, who, as adults, contacted each other and uncovered the full extent of the abuse they had endured at his hands.
Following his conviction, Savage was not only sentenced to nine years behind bars but was also placed on the Sex Offender Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
The court also ordered that Savage will be eligible for release on licence after serving two-thirds of his sentence, subject to conditions aimed at protecting the public and preventing further offenses.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and the relentless pursuit of justice for victims of sexual abuse, regardless of the offender’s location or background.
