ROBIN SCOTT FROM BEDALE SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES IN DERBYSHIRE AND GLOSSOP
In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention, Robin Scott, a man residing in Bedale, has been sentenced to over seven years in prison following his conviction for serious sexual offences committed against a teenage boy in Derbyshire. The incident unfolded in the town of Glossop, where Scott, who was at the time the headteacher of Woodlesford Primary School in Leeds, engaged in grooming and sexual activities with the minor.According to court proceedings, Robin Scott, aged 53, was found guilty of multiple charges related to his inappropriate conduct. The offences took place between February 2017 and June 2018, during which Scott targeted a vulnerable young person who cannot be named for legal reasons. It is important to note that these crimes were not connected to Scott’s role at the school, but rather involved his personal actions in the Glossop area.
The case was brought before Derby Crown Court on Monday, July 23, where Scott admitted to three counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of meeting a child following sexual grooming. His plea marked a significant development in the case, which initially involved ten counts of sexual activity with a minor and one count of sexual grooming. These initial charges were brought against him at Chesterfield magistrates’ court in June, but Scott later pleaded guilty to a reduced set of charges, which the Crown Prosecution Service accepted.
Following his guilty plea, Scott was sentenced to a term of seven years and four months in custody. The sentence reflects the gravity of his actions and the serious nature of the offences committed. The investigation was led by Detective Sergeant Steve Bruce, who expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “Robin Scott groomed a young man and then engaged in sexual activity with him on a number of occasions. I’m pleased we have been able to get this result in court and hope it shows just how seriously we treat offences like this.”
Prosecutor Becky Allsop provided further details during a previous hearing, revealing that the offences came to light when Scott was observed with the 15-year-old victim, prompting police involvement. She explained that Scott had allegedly been in contact with the boy via social media since the boy was 13 years old. The situation reportedly escalated to more serious sexual conduct, with Scott allegedly taking the young person to a Travelodge for further encounters. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address and prosecute such disturbing offences, ensuring justice for victims and the community at large.
