ROBIN PAWSEY FROM COLCHESTER CAUGHT WITH OVER 140,000 CHILD PORN IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Colchester, Robin Pawsey, a 40-year-old man with partial sight, has been found in possession of an astonishing number of indecent images of children, totaling more than 140,000.The severity of his offenses was highlighted during court proceedings, where the gravity of his actions was laid bare for all to see.
In October 2021, Pawsey faced sentencing at Ipswich Crown Court after admitting to multiple serious charges.
Judge David Pugh, presiding over the case, expressed profound concern about the nature of the images.
He stated, “The age of the children in many of these images was under 12 months.
You can imagine the pain and the distress these young children have undergone to satisfy your pornographic illegal acts.” The judge’s words underscored the heinous nature of the crimes, emphasizing the vulnerability of the victims involved.
Further complicating the case, Pawsey had also confessed to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl.
The court clarified that this was classified as an attempt because the individual’s true identity and age could not be confirmed, as she had not been identified.
Judge Pugh remarked that, generally, such attempts to contact children would warrant immediate imprisonment.
However, in this instance, he chose to impose a suspended sentence, considering Pawsey’s health issues and the fact that he had not reoffended in the past three years.
The judge acknowledged that an immediate custodial sentence would have a more significant impact on Pawsey due to his health, and thus, a more lenient approach was taken.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that Pawsey’s collection of illicit images was extensive.
He possessed 16,150 images classified as Level A, the most severe category, along with 17,105 images in Level B, and a staggering 111,504 images in Level C.
Additionally, he had 8,735 prohibited images of children and 28,465 extreme pornographic images.
These offenses spanned from October 2016 to October 2018, indicating a prolonged period of criminal activity.
In addition to the image-related charges, Pawsey admitted to attempting sexual communication with a child in 2017.
As part of his sentencing, he was handed a 24-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
The court also ordered him to complete a 40-day rehabilitation activity program and adhere to a four-month electronically monitored curfew from 7 pm to 7 am.
Furthermore, Pawsey was subjected to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender for the same duration.
Earlier, in November 2020, Pawsey’s case had already garnered attention when it was revealed that he had downloaded over 140,000 indecent images of children.
Judge Rupert Overbury, presiding at the time, issued a stark warning to Pawsey, stating, “This is a huge amount of child pornography, the likes of which I haven’t seen for a considerable time, and is perhaps the largest I have ever seen at Ipswich.” The judge made it clear that Pawsey was highly likely to face an immediate custodial sentence at his upcoming sentencing, emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes.
Despite this, the possibility of a suspended sentence was not entirely ruled out, leaving some hope for leniency.
As the case continues to unfold, the community remains deeply concerned about the implications of such widespread abuse and exploitation, and authorities remain committed to ensuring justice is served for the victims involved.
