ROBIN HAINS AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENCE IN CHICHESTER AND SOUTHAMPTON
A man facing serious allegations involving child sexual offences was arrested in a police sting operation in Shirley, Southampton, an action that shocked many in the community. Robin Hains, aged 47, had traveled from Bognor Regis with the clear intent of engaging in illegal activity involving a teenage boy, specifically a 13-year-old. His journey across the south coast was motivated by these sinister intentions, which he openly discussed through online messaging platforms.According to police reports, Hains had been boasting about his plans to another individual in March of the previous year, revealing a disturbing level of intent to commit abuse. Law enforcement had been tracking his online communications, which ultimately led to his arrest during the covert operation in Shirley. The police stated that Hains had traveled a considerable distance, expecting to carry out illegal sexual acts with the minor upon meeting him.
During a court appearance at Southampton Crown Court, Hains admitted to charges including arranging or facilitating a child sex offence and producing indecent images of children. His actions and the content of his communications pointed towards premeditated criminal activity, which the authorities take very seriously.
Detective Constable Colin Haynes, who was involved in the investigation from the Specialist Enforcement Response and Operations Unit (SEROCU), provided insight into the case. He emphasized that Hains had anticipated a sexual encounter and was so shocked when police detained him that he fainted at the scene. This reaction, Detective Haynes suggested, reflected Hains’s shock at being caught and exposed for his offending behavior. He further explained that Hains, given his professional background, would have been fully aware of what constituted a child sex offence, making his actions even more disturbing.
Hains worked at the urology department of University Hospitals Sussex, a notable detail that underscores the gravity of his offending given his position in the healthcare sector. His arrest and subsequent conviction resulted in a prison sentence of three years and two months. Additionally, he is now required to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for the same duration.
The authorities have reiterated that their ongoing mission is to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse, emphasizing that those who commit such offences will be held accountable. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the relentless efforts by law enforcement to prevent harm.
