ROBIN CROWTHER FROM SCUNTHORPE JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGE OFFENSES
In July 2018, Robin Crowther, a 52-year-old resident of Melford Court in Scunthorpe, was convicted and subsequently sentenced to prison for serious offenses involving the possession of indecent images and videos of children. The case was brought to the attention of the authorities after Crowther pleaded guilty to three separate charges related to the creation and possession of such material, which he committed between May and July of the previous year.
During the proceedings at Grimsby Crown Court, prosecutor Richard Davies provided a detailed account of the evidence against Crowther.
It was revealed that the defendant had amassed a significant collection of illicit material, including 1,017 images and 50 videos classified as Category A, which denotes the most severe form of child exploitation content.
Additionally, there were 411 images and 13 videos categorized as Category B, and 770 images along with eight videos falling under Category C, indicating varying degrees of severity in the material stored on Crowther’s devices.
The prosecutor explained that these images and videos were downloaded onto Crowther’s personal computer, which was seized and sent for forensic analysis.
The investigation was initiated after a routine visit by a detective constable to Crowther’s home on July 3, 2017.
As Crowther was a registered sex offender, such visits are standard procedure.
During this visit, the officer had the opportunity to examine Crowther’s laptop and discovered the presence of indecent images, prompting further investigation.
It was also disclosed that these offenses occurred while Crowther was already under scrutiny for previous legal issues related to similar conduct.
In an interview with authorities, Crowther admitted responsibility for downloading the illicit images, acknowledging his involvement in the creation and possession of the material.
Defense lawyer Chris Dickens addressed the court, emphasizing that Crowther was aware of his legal obligations and previous convictions.
He highlighted that Crowther’s actions involved children as young as eight years old, and that the images depicted clear signs of distress and pain.
Dickens also pointed out that Crowther had taken steps to address his offending behavior, including participating in a sex offenders’ rehabilitation program for the second time.
Despite these efforts, the court was informed of Crowther’s extensive history with similar offenses.
Recorder Jamie Hill QC stated during sentencing, “This is the fifth time you have been before the courts in respect of possession of indecent images of children.” Recognizing the gravity of the case, the judge sentenced Crowther to 30 months in prison, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and his repeated violations of the law.
