ROBERT THOMPSON OF LARKHALL SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY TO PUPPY CHEEKA IN SCOTLAND

In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, Robert Thompson, a resident of Larkhall, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to an 18-week-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Cheeka. The incident took place at Thompson's home on Raploch Road, where he deliberately inflicted harm on the defenseless puppy.

According to reports from Scottish SPCA Inspector Sam McDonald, the incident occurred after Thompson lost his temper. The inspector explained, “When questioned, Thompson said he lost his temper because he woke to find Cheeka had toileted inside her cage in the house. He told her to do the toilet outside and threw her towards the door, at which point she hit the door frame and fell down the stairs, breaking one of her front legs.”

This act of violence has been widely condemned by animal welfare organizations. Inspector McDonald described the incident as “a shameful act of violence against a defenceless puppy.” He further expressed disappointment that Thompson received only a six-year ban from keeping animals, which expired in 2019. The inspector stated, “While we welcome the six-year ban given to Thompson, in our opinion a life ban on keeping animals would have been an appropriate punishment as we believe he is completely unfit to provide animals with the care they deserve.”

Thanks to the diligent investigation by the Scottish SPCA, Cheeka was spared from being returned to Thompson. The organization emphasized their commitment to finding her a loving new home where she can recover and live happily for the rest of her life. The case highlights ongoing concerns about animal cruelty and the importance of strict penalties for offenders in Scotland.
