ROBERT TAYLOR FROM POOLE SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN BOURNEMOUTH
In a case that has shocked the local community of Poole and the surrounding areas, Robert Taylor, a 61-year-old resident of Surrey Road in Poole, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a series of serious child sexual offences. The crimes, which spanned over a three-month period, involved grooming and manipulating a 15-year-old girl, leading to a conviction that highlights the disturbing nature of his actions.
According to court proceedings at Bournemouth Crown Court, Taylor’s criminal behavior came to light after the young victim disclosed the abuse to police authorities.
An investigation into her allegations revealed a disturbing collection of over 2,600 indecent images of her stored on Taylor’s phone, underscoring the extent of his misconduct.
The court heard that Taylor had engaged in multiple forms of sexual activity with the girl, including penetrative acts, and had also been involved in non-penetrative sexual acts, all while she was between the ages of 13 and 15.
During the trial last month, Taylor was found guilty of three counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a child and one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a girl aged 13 to 15.
He also admitted to additional charges, including causing or inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, taking seven indecent photographs of a child, and making two indecent photographs of a child.
These charges paint a picture of a man who exploited a vulnerable young girl over a sustained period.
Judge William Mousley KC presided over the sentencing hearing held on Thursday, February 2, at Bournemouth Crown Court.
In his remarks, the judge described Taylor’s actions as deeply disturbing, noting that he kept “souvenirs” of his abuse, which included a collection of indecent images of the girl.
The judge expressed his belief that Taylor had groomed the girl to comply with his demands and had manipulated her emotionally, creating a climate of fear and control.
Judge Mousley KC emphasized that Taylor, who had no previous convictions, had made the girl frightened of him, further illustrating the manipulative nature of his conduct.
A statement from the victim, read aloud by prosecutor Tim Moores, detailed the profound psychological impact the abuse had inflicted upon her.
She described experiencing “horrific memories” more than a year after the incidents, highlighting the lasting trauma caused by Taylor’s actions.
Throughout the trial, Taylor refused to answer questions when confronted with the allegations.
He denied the charges of penetration and the claim that he had fondled himself in front of the girl.
The court also heard that Taylor attempted to shift blame onto the victim, but Judge Mousley KC firmly stated that “there is only one person to blame and it is you.” While it was acknowledged that these crimes were out of character for Taylor and occurred during a difficult period in his life, the severity of the offences warranted a substantial sentence.
The judge underscored that the conviction was largely due to the courage and perseverance of the young girl who came forward.
As part of his sentence, Taylor was handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and was placed on the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
