LYNDHURST VET ROBERT RUSSELL CONVICTED OF CHILD AND ANIMAL PORNOGRAPHY IN SOUTHAMPTON
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community of Lyndhurst, Robert Russell, a veterinarian with ties to the area, has been found guilty of possessing a large collection of indecent images involving children and animals. The conviction comes after a detailed investigation into his activities, which revealed the disturbing extent of his illegal collection.Russell, who is listed as a director of the Pet Healthcare Centre located on Pylewell Road in Lyndhurst, saw his practice close abruptly two weeks ago. An official notice on the clinic’s door stated that the business had shut temporarily due to "business issues currently beyond our control," leaving many clients uncertain about the future of their pet care services.
The case against Russell was brought to light during a court hearing at Southampton Crown Court in June. The 63-year-old resident of Pikes Hill, Lyndhurst, admitted to multiple charges, including making indecent photographs of children, possessing a prohibited image of a child, and possessing extreme pornographic images involving animals. The court was informed that these illegal images had been stored on external hard drives over a period spanning from August 2013 to November 2019.
Authorities acted on information linked to an IP address associated with Russell’s internet activity, which led them to his home. During the search, officers seized several hard drives and a tablet device. An examination of the seized devices uncovered a horrifying collection of images: 104 classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of abuse, along with 40 Category B images and 132 Category C images. In addition, investigators found 2,280 prohibited images of children and 109 extreme pornographic images involving animals.
As a result of his actions, Russell was sentenced to a two-year community order. This included a requirement to complete 150 hours of unpaid work. Furthermore, he was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will remain in effect for five years, aiming to restrict any future offending and protect the community from potential harm.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and regulatory bodies to combat the distribution and possession of illegal and exploitative material, especially involving vulnerable children and animals. The community of Lyndhurst and the wider Hampshire area continues to grapple with the implications of this disturbing case, which underscores the importance of vigilance and swift legal action against such heinous crimes.
