MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL BASEBALL BAT ASSAULT ON PARTNER IN SPLOTT

Robert Paul, a man from Carlisle Street in Splott, was involved in a shocking domestic violence incident involving his partner, Leanne Permintella. According to reports from Cardiff Crown Court, Paul attacked Ms. Permintella following an argument on the evening of July 3. During the assault, he pulled her hair, poured cider over her, punched her causing a wound to her chin, and then struck her head with a baseball bat, which split upon impact due to the force used. Despite the injury, Paul continued to punch her in the face, resulting in swelling and pain to her jaw. Ms. Permintella managed to lock herself in the bathroom and called the police. Bloodstains and the broken baseball bat were found at the scene. Paul denied attacking her during police interviews but accepted he drank seven or eight cans of cider that day. The court noted the assault was sustained and involved a weapon, with prosecutors highlighting this as an aggravating factor. It was revealed that Paul had previous convictions for violence towards Ms. Permintella, including attempting to strangle her and throwing her down stairs within the last 12 months. He also breached a community order from July the previous year by entering her home uninvited, throwing her to the floor, and threatening to kill her. Paul pleaded guilty to the assault, and the judge described the incident as 'truly shocking,' sentencing him to 16 months in jail.
