ROBERT MCHATTIE FROM PETERHEAD INVOLVED IN CHILDREN'S CHARITY DESPITE SEX OFFENSES
In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that Robert McHattie, a man with a deeply troubling criminal past, is currently involved in activities that bring him into close contact with children in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. Despite serving time in prison for serious sexual offenses, McHattie is secretly working for a local children’s charity and actively participating in organizing social events aimed at young people.McHattie, who is 54 years old and resides in Peterhead, has a criminal record that includes an 18-month jail sentence for the sexual abuse of a young girl over an eight-year period. The victim, now an adult with children of her own, recounted to the court how she was repeatedly assaulted from the age of four until she suffered a breakdown at age 12. Her testimony painted a disturbing picture of ongoing abuse that left lasting scars.
Despite the severity of his past crimes, McHattie continues to work in a shop operated by the Banners charity, located on Broad Street in Peterhead. The charity provides a meeting place for children who have been excluded from other youth clubs due to behavioral issues. McHattie’s presence at the shop and his regular attendance at the Buchanhaven Community Centre during youth evenings have raised serious concerns among local residents.
Locals expressed their disbelief and alarm upon discovering McHattie’s involvement with children. One resident remarked, “These kids are the most vulnerable in society, the weans that nobody wants to help. They all have chips on their shoulders and this man should not be allowed anywhere near them. We were all flabbergasted when we saw him coming and going from the group’s second-hand shop in the town. It’s unbelievable they would even allow him through the door.”
Adding to the community’s distress, the woman who was his victim shared her feelings about his current activities. She stated, “He is a paedophile who to this day cannot look at himself in a mirror and admit it. I cannot believe he is involved in something like this — he should not be within a million miles of weans.” She also revealed a disturbing incident where McHattie appeared at her doorstep as a debt collector for an Aberdeen-based recovery firm. She explained, “I wasn’t in at the time, but he left a postcard. I nearly fainted when I got home and realised who had been at my door. A relative called the sheriff’s officers to tell them all about who they were employing. They said he told them on his CV that he had been a prison officer during the time he was inside. I am disgusted. My own children do not know what this evil man did to me and I would like to keep it that way, but he is a danger to young people. He took my whole life.”
McHattie, who lives just a few hundred yards from Meethill Primary School in Peterhead, is known to be an enthusiast of the internet and CB radio, using the nickname Cruiser. He is twice married and has a history of incarceration, having served time in 1982. He spends hours surfing the web at his residence on Aalesund Road.
When questioned about his involvement with the charity, McHattie claimed, “I have been helping out at the Banners group, that is all. I am in and out of the shop all the time but I don’t work there full time. I go in to speak about motorbikes to the man who runs the shop, nothing else.” His assertions have done little to quell community fears, given his past and the nature of his current activities.
