THUGS CAGED FOR BRUTAL ATTACK ON PETERHEAD OAP IN HER OWN HOME
Two offenders have been sentenced to prison for a heinous assault on a pensioner from Peterhead, resulting in serious injuries.Michael Geddes and his nephew Brodie Burns were today jailed for attacking and attempting to rob 75-year-old Mary Shaw.
The elderly woman was peacefully sleeping at her home in Blue Toon on July 9, 2023, when the pair targeted her, demanding £10,000 and assaulting her severely.
Judge Andrew Miller described their actions as “nightmarish.” Geddes, who lives in Allandale, Camperdown, had previously done odd jobs for Ms.
Shaw, while Burns, residing nearby on Willowbank Road, was a person she had only acquaintanceship with.
During their trial at the High Court last year, both men denied involvement and each accused the other, but a jury found them both guilty of inflicting injuries that led to her hospital stay.
Ms.
Shaw sustained a fractured sternum and ribs, as well as sinus issues, which still cause her discomfort.
She was hospitalized for five days following the attack.
She testified that the assault has affected her sleep and, speaking to the Press and Journal, disclosed that she has spent “thousands” to improve the security of her home.
Reacting today as the men are settling into their prison sentences, she remarked: “I would have preferred it to be a bit longer, but there you go.
“It not only brings me some peace of mind, but it’s also for everyone I’ve spoken to in Peterhead.
It’s for them as well.
It could have been anyone — just like me — that they targeted.
“Now I can sleep again.
I feel more balanced.
The memory of the incident will always be there, but it’s in the back of my mind.
It’s closure.
Let them deal with it inside.
“I’m glad they’re off the streets.
I’m pleased with the outcome.”
