ROBERT LORN MCLUCKIE SENTENCED IN BELFAST FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON PARTNER

In a case that has shocked the community in Belfast, Robert Lorn McLuckie has been handed down a significant prison sentence after being found guilty of assaulting his partner, Eva Komuves. The incident, which took place in August 2023, involved a violent altercation that left Ms Komuves with severe facial injuries and lasting trauma.

According to court reports, the confrontation began as a heated argument between McLuckie and Ms Komuves. The situation quickly escalated into physical violence when McLuckie grabbed her by the arms and issued threats to strike her. Without warning, he delivered a punch to her face, causing her to stumble backwards and collide with a kitchen cupboard. The force of the blow was so severe that Ms Komuves felt her teeth dislodge, and blood filled her mouth, highlighting the brutality of the attack.

Ms Komuves later provided a detailed account of the assault to police authorities, revealing not only the recent violence but also recalling a previous incident from August 2021. During that earlier episode, McLuckie had punched her on the nose after she questioned him about a dating website. The injury from that attack required hospital treatment, and her nose was subsequently reset by medical professionals. The costs associated with her treatment have already reached approximately £12,000, with further medical expenses anticipated due to ongoing care needs.

The court proceedings, held at Belfast Crown Court and presided over by Judge Gordon Kerr KC, heard the full extent of the injuries inflicted and the emotional distress caused. Judge Kerr described the assault as 'serious,' emphasizing the significant 'aim and discomfort' inflicted upon Ms Komuves. He also noted the dental and cosmetic issues resulting from the attack, which have had a lasting impact on her well-being.

Despite acknowledging that McLuckie has no prior criminal record and has maintained a good work history, the judge determined that the severity of the assault warranted a substantial custodial sentence. McLuckie was sentenced to 15 months in prison for the assault, with an additional 15 months on licence following his release, totaling a sentence of 30 months in custody. The case underscores the ongoing concerns about domestic violence and the importance of holding offenders accountable, especially in cases involving significant physical harm and emotional trauma.
