ROBERT HUTCHISON FROM TURRIF SENTENCED AFTER SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MESSAGES TO SOCIAL WORKER IN ABERDEEN

A man from Turriff has been officially registered as a sex offender following a disturbing incident involving inappropriate communication with a social worker. Robert Hutchison, aged 56, appeared before Aberdeen Sheriff Court to face charges related to his conduct. The case centered around a series of sexually explicit messages that Hutchison sent over a single weekend, which quickly escalated from seemingly innocent exchanges to highly inappropriate and distressing content.

Initially, the messages appeared to be benign, with Hutchison discussing mundane topics such as wallpaper. However, the tone shifted dramatically as he began to ask the social worker to perform sexual acts and inquired whether she liked what she saw. Notably, Hutchison did not attach any images to his messages, but his words alone were enough to cause concern. The victim, who was working in her professional capacity, discovered the messages when she checked her work mobile phone. Recognizing the troubling nature of the communication, she promptly reported the incident to authorities.

Following her report, Hutchison was quickly cautioned and subsequently arrested by law enforcement officials. During the court proceedings, he admitted to sending messages with the intent of obtaining sexual gratification and causing distress or alarm to his victim. His solicitor acknowledged that Hutchison has ongoing issues, including alcohol dependency, and expressed that he is remorseful for his actions. The defense also noted that Hutchison is currently undergoing rehabilitation to address his problems.

The sheriff, taking into account the seriousness of the behavior, decided on a community-based sentence rather than custodial imprisonment. Hutchison was sentenced to a community payback order, which includes 12 months of supervised probation. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work as part of his rehabilitation. As part of the court's ruling, Hutchison was also placed on the sex offenders register for a period of 12 months, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct in the community.
