EX-WORCESTER TEACHER JAILED FOR ATTEMPTING TO MEET 'BOY' FOR SEX
A FORMER Worcester teacher and scout leader, Robert Howe, has been sentenced to two years in prison after arranging to meet a decoy child for sex.
Howe, a 34-year-old bisexual geography teacher who was previously head of department at Tudor Grange Academy, believed he was communicating with a 'cute' 15-year-old boy after the breakdown of his marriage, but was actually talking to an undercover police officer.
The court heard that Howe had admitted attempted sexual communication with the decoy between April 13 and 21 this year and had also arranged to facilitate a child sexual offence at an earlier hearing at Worcester Magistrates Court.
Although he developed cold feet and did not meet the decoy on April 22, Howe was arrested as he left work, and devices including his iPhone were seized.
He refused to supply his pin number, but the SIM card matched the WhatsApp number used in communications.
Prior to these offenses, Howe had no previous convictions.
Judge Nicolas Cartwright sentenced him to two years in prison and imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, restricting his contact with children of both sexes and his use of the internet and related devices.
As a sex offender, he will also need to fulfill notification requirements.
