ROBERT EVANS PLYMOUTH MONSTER SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR ABUSING THREE GIRLS IN PLYMOUTH
In a harrowing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Plymouth, Robert Evans, a 47-year-old man, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 12 years after being convicted of sexually abusing three young girls over a period of nine years. The court heard that Evans, who was born and raised in Plymouth and resided at Efford Walk, concealed his heinous actions for nearly a decade, keeping his abuse a dark secret from everyone around him.
During the trial, it was revealed that Evans repeatedly assaulted the three victims, causing profound and lasting trauma.
The victims, whose identities remain protected, endured not only the physical and emotional pain inflicted by Evans but also the additional suffering of having to relive their experiences by giving evidence in court.
One of the victims, in a heartbreaking statement, disclosed that she had attempted to take her own life twice during the three-year period it took for the case to reach Plymouth Crown Court.
She explained in January of the previous year, “I have been put on antidepressants, I cannot sleep and my anxiety is getting worse.
I feel like my life was a mess mentally because of what happened.” Her words underscore the devastating impact that Evans’ actions have had on her mental health and overall well-being.
Law enforcement officials and police have publicly commended the bravery of the victims for coming forward and remaining steadfast throughout the lengthy legal process.
Judge William Mousley, presiding over the case, addressed Evans directly, stating, “There was a dark secret that existed between you and these three girls.
It has had a serious impact on all three of your victims.” The judge also highlighted the severe emotional toll on the victims, noting that one girl had resorted to self-harm and was overwhelmed by the stress of the trial.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Mousley emphasized that the first victim blamed herself for not reporting the abuse sooner, but he made it clear that she should not carry any blame for Evans’ actions.
“She should in no way blame herself for what you did, either to herself or the others,” he said.
The court also heard that the third victim experienced significant stress and anxiety as a result of the court proceedings.
Evans was found guilty after a five-day trial at the end of last month, during which the prosecution presented compelling evidence, including two victim statements read aloud by Kelly Scrivener of the Crown Prosecution Service.
The third victim bravely took the stand herself, recounting her ordeal and the impact it has had on her life.
She revealed that she lost her job because she was unable to perform properly due to the trauma.
As part of his sentence, Evans will be required to sign the Sex Offender Register for the rest of his life.
His prison term will see him remain incarcerated until at least the eight-year mark, as he will not be eligible for release at the halfway point.
The court’s decision underscores the gravity of his crimes and the lasting damage inflicted upon his victims, who will carry the scars of this abuse for the rest of their lives.
