August 2018 Holidaymaker Jailed For Sexual Grooming A holidaymaker has been jailed for seven months after attempting to meet a child in Jersey following sexual grooming. 57 year old Robert Connell was snared by Jersey female paedophile hunter Cheyenne O’Connor, who posed as a 14 year old boy on dating app Grindr. Connell started a conversation on the app in July, which quickly turned sexual. He set up a meeting, but didn’t show up the first time. He was arrested after arranging a second meeting at his hotel. Despite admitting the offence, he claimed to have no sexual interest in children and said he had no intention of actually meeting the child. His defence said that he was engaging in this behaviour through ‘curiosity’ and that he was remorseful and ashamed. In sentencing him to seven months, Magistrate Nuno Santos Costa said his guilty plea wasn’t consistent with his claims he wouldn’t have met the child and that the court has a duty to protect the young and vulnerable in society.
