LIVERPOOL MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL MOTHER MURDER OVER FINANCIAL TROUBLE
Robert Child, aged 37, was found guilty of murdering his mother, Janice, who was 64 years old, during a violent assault at her residence in Woolton, Liverpool, on March 6.The court was informed that Child was experiencing severe financial hardship and committed the killing in a desperate bid to access her money.
The judge described the murder as a 'merciless attack,' noting that Child hit his mother 31 times in the face and neck.
After the killing, he moved £25,000 from her bank account to his own and purchased a nearly £15,000 Jaguar car the following day.
While Child admitted to the murder, he denied that his motive was financial gain.
Judge Dennis Watson QC sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 29 years.
The court also uncovered that Child had fabricated multiple aspects of his background, falsely claiming to have a doctorate, to have worked for Manchester United, and to have played hockey for Great Britain.
The trial revealed that he attempted to establish an alibi by leaving his phone at Liverpool University but was caught when detectives located a bus ticket connecting him to the crime scene shortly after the murder.
The judge criticized Child, calling him a 'selfish narcissist,' and highlighted that his greed and the breakdown of his supposed lifestyle fueled the attack, describing his actions as 'spiteful' and emphasizing the brutality involved.
