October 2003 Internet paedophile jailed for 15 months A COTHAM man who dubbed himself “Captain Birdseye” during online chats with other internet paedophiles has been jailed for 15 months. Robert Budd, aged 47, shut himself away from the world and spent up to six hours a day surfing the internet following the death of his mother, Bristol Crown court heard. But, his “mind-blowing” new horizons included child pornography, the court heard. His activities were spotted by police as he exchanged photos on a website called Good Young Boys, calling himself Captain Birdseye. Budd, of Freemantle Road, admitted three charges of distributing indecent photos and 11 of making them by downloading onto his computer. Sentencing him to 15 months in prison, Judge Simon Darwall Smith said: “I’ve seen a sample of the photographs and I have seen certain writings by you. The assessment I have made is this case goes beyond the 12 months custody bracket.” Ramin Pakrooh, defending, said most images found in Budd’s possession were at the lower end of seriousness.
