ROBERT BROWN, PERTH CHURCH ORGANIST AND UNDERTAKER, SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN SCOTLAND
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community in Perth, Robert Brown, a man known for his roles as a church organist and a former undertaker, has been sentenced to four years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of minors. The offences spanned over a decade, during which Brown engaged in inappropriate sexual acts with two young boys and exposed them to explicit material, causing lasting trauma.
Brown, who also held the position of area manager at Dignity Caring Funeral Services, was recognized in 2004 for his service in bringing home the bodies of 14 RAF Kinloss service personnel who tragically died in the RAF Nimrod crash in Afghanistan.
Despite his prior commendations, his criminal actions have now overshadowed his previous contributions.
At the age of 64, Brown’s abuse began when one of his victims was just seven years old, and the other was ten.
The abuse continued over a period of 13 years, from 1991 to 2004, until allegations surfaced publicly.
Following the accusations, Brown was removed from his position as a church organist at Craigie Parish Church in Perth, reflecting the community’s response to the serious allegations.
The court proceedings revealed chilling details of Brown’s conduct.
When confronted by one of the boys about his paedophilic tendencies, Brown reportedly responded, “Yes.
I suppose I am,” acknowledging his inappropriate behavior.
He faced charges of indecent behaviour and indecent assault, to which he pleaded guilty during a hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh on 20 March.
Brown’s guilty plea resulted in a reduced sentence of four years, which could have been six years had he not admitted guilt early in the process.
Additionally, he will be registered on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
During the sentencing, Lord Burns issued a stern warning, emphasizing the potential consequences of any future offending.
He stated, “No doubt you are aware that if you offend again during that period you will be subject to recall to prison for the whole of the three-year period,” underscoring the seriousness with which the court views his crimes and the importance of preventing further harm.
