CREWE PAEDOPHILE ROBERT BRADBURY SENTENCED FOR DISTRIBUTING GROTESQUE IMAGES OF CHILDREN

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Crewe, Robert Bradbury, aged 50, has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of possessing and distributing a large number of indecent images depicting young boys being abused. The offences came to light following an investigation into his online activities, which revealed a chilling pattern of behavior involving the download and dissemination of hundreds of explicit images.

Bradbury’s residence on Alton Street in Crewe became the focal point of the police inquiry. Over a two-year period, he downloaded a staggering total of 521 indecent images of children, with 238 classified as level A, indicating the most graphic and disturbing content. The images included photographs of boys as young as three years old, as well as children as young as eight. The court heard that Bradbury did not limit himself to viewing these images but also actively shared them with others via email.

According to court proceedings, Bradbury emailed these illicit images to 99 recipients, claiming that some of the pictures were of a fictitious son he called ‘Tom’. Despite his claims, it was confirmed that he did not have any children. Prosecutor Paulinus Barnes highlighted that Bradbury described the images as depicting boys he falsely claimed were his own sons, a claim that was entirely fabricated. During the investigation, Bradbury admitted to exchanging 99 images with other men he met on a website, 17 of which were classified as level A, the most severe category.

Further details revealed that Bradbury engaged in conversations with other individuals online, describing the images and sometimes claiming they were of himself as a child. One of the men he corresponded with expressed satisfaction in exchanging images with a “like-minded dad,” underscoring the disturbing nature of these communications. Bradbury’s actions were described as ‘beyond disturbing’ by Judge Raj Shetty during sentencing.

Bradbury’s background was noted as being free of previous convictions or cautions, and he was described as having an ‘exemplary character’ prior to his arrest. He was taken into custody in January 2013 after police received information concerning an email account associated with him. During police interviews, Bradbury not only admitted to the offences but also directed officers to two other email accounts he had been using for similar activities.

Expressing remorse, Bradbury told his barrister, Silas Reid, that he did not understand ‘what possessed [him] to do it’. Despite his remorse, the court imposed a significant sentence, including a two-year prison term and a 10-year sexual offences prevention order. Judge Shetty emphasized that Bradbury’s actions went beyond mere possession; he derived satisfaction from the very idea of sexual abuse occurring, which he described as ‘the real evil’ behind the distribution of these images.

As part of his sentence, Bradbury will be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and the importance of vigilance in safeguarding vulnerable children from such heinous crimes.
