‘JUMP OUT THE WINDOW AND KILL YOURSELF’ — ABUSER ORDERED TO DO 75 HOURS OF UNPAID WORK

A domestic abuser who repeatedly assaulted, controlled and verbally abused his partner over two years has walked free from court after being ordered to complete just 75 hours of unpaid work.

Robbie Renwick, 22, admitted carrying out a sustained campaign of domestic abuse against his former partner between 2023 and 2025.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard the relationship began in 2022 and was initially trouble-free.

But after the couple moved into a home in Hawick, Renwick’s behaviour allegedly changed dramatically.

Prosecutors said he became controlling, regularly insulted the woman and called her offensive names before the abuse escalated into violence.

During one argument in September 2023, Renwick punched the woman in the face before following her into a bedroom, pinning her down and striking her again.

In a shocking twist, the court heard he later bought her snacks before telling her not to tell anyone about the assault or seek medical treatment.

The abuse continued throughout the relationship.

On another occasion, neighbours became so concerned by a heated row that they called police.

However, the woman was not yet ready to disclose the abuse she had been suffering.

The court also heard Renwick launched further verbal abuse towards the end of 2024 before a witness stepped in, told him to leave her alone and took the woman to safety.

Perhaps the most chilling allegation came during an argument in 2025 when Renwick allegedly pointed at a bedroom window and told his partner: “Do you see that window?

Please take off your shoes, jump out of it and kill yourself.” When she broke down in tears, he allegedly coldly responded: “Get over it.” The victim finally ended the relationship in April 2025, although Renwick remained living at the property while searching for alternative accommodation.

Even after the split, prosecutors said another confrontation broke out when the woman returned to decorate the home with her sister.

The shouting became so severe that the woman’s family contacted police.

Renwick, now of Grieve Avenue, Jedburgh, admitted engaging in a course of abusive behaviour towards a partner or ex-partner.

Sheriff Peter Anderson imposed a Community Payback Order, requiring Renwick to complete 75 hours of unpaid work and remain under supervision for 12 months.

The sheriff also granted an 18-month Non-Harassment Order, banning Renwick from contacting his former partner.
