BORDERS MAN PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO TWO COUNTS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT
2026-07-09 17:04: Welat Avasin, residing on Station Crescent in Duns, was found guilty of sexually assaulting two underage girls aged 14 and 15.The assaults took place in a lay-by at Coldingham and during a car ride between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Eyemouth on September 18, 2024.
He forced the girls to perform sexual acts on him and pressured them into kissing each other.
Although Avasin denied the allegations, he was convicted following a three-day trial at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
His sentencing has been postponed until July 27 to allow for background reports.

He is charged with two counts of sexual assault and coercing someone into being present during sexual activity.
The case is scheduled for a trial at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on October 6.
