ROBBIE AYLOTT FROM WHITTLESEY CAUGHT IN PETERBOROUGH SEX OFFENDER SCANDAL

In July 2020, Robbie Aylott, a known sex offender from Whittlesey, found himself back in the spotlight after authorities uncovered his continued violations of legal restrictions and his attempts to conceal his identity online. The incident unfolded during a routine appointment at Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough, where Aylott, aged 25 at the time, attended as part of his ongoing obligations under the Sex Offenders Register.

During this scheduled check-in, officers from the northern Public Protection Unit (PPU) conducted an interview with Aylott. As part of the process, he presented a new mobile device for inspection, which was a requirement stipulated by his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). A thorough examination of the phone revealed a disturbing pattern of misconduct. A screenshot from a dating website’s homepage was discovered, and further investigation uncovered that Aylott had created multiple accounts on two dating platforms, Love Swans and Victoria Hearts, using an alias to hide his true identity.

In addition to these illicit accounts, authorities found that Aylott had deliberately deleted his internet browsing history, which contained sexual conversations with adult women on these platforms. It was also noted that he had failed to clearly indicate his age on these profiles, breaching the conditions of his SHPO. These actions demonstrated a clear attempt to evade detection and continue engaging in inappropriate online behavior.

Robbie Aylott, originally from Dogsthorpe in Peterborough, had previously been placed on the Sex Offenders Register and subjected to a SHPO in 2014 after being convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. His criminal record and the restrictions imposed upon him were meant to prevent further offenses, but recent events indicated a blatant disregard for these legal boundaries.

On July 6, during a court hearing at Peterborough Crown Court, Aylott pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching his SHPO and failing to comply with notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register. The court sentenced him to six months in prison, but this term was suspended for 18 months. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 35 days of Rehabilitation Activity, perform 100 hours of unpaid work, and pay £350 in prosecution costs. This sentence reflected the seriousness of his violations and the ongoing concern about his compliance.

Earlier, in October 2018, Aylott’s violations had already come to light when he was found to have moved into a property in Peterborough with children present, despite police explicitly advising against such a move. The incident occurred after he contacted police on August 29 to request permission to relocate to a different address closer to his workplace. However, checks confirmed that children were living at the proposed address, and his request was denied.

Despite this, Aylott ignored the police decision and was discovered at the property on September 24. During this visit, officers uncovered multiple breaches of his 2015 court-imposed sexual harm prevention order. They found that he possessed a device capable of internet access, which he had used to delete his browsing history, and that he had created and subsequently deleted social media profiles and dating apps in an attempt to cover his tracks. He was charged with six counts of breaching his sexual harm prevention order and five counts of failing to comply with notification requirements.

On October 25, at Cambridge Crown Court, Aylott received an eight-month prison sentence for these violations. The court’s decision underscored the ongoing risk he posed and the importance of enforcing compliance with court orders to protect the community.

Back in June 2016, Aylott’s troubling behavior was already evident when he was involved in an incident where he sent explicit images to young teenagers over the internet. At that time, he was 21 years old and residing on Pinewood Avenue in Whittlesey. He had previously been given a community order in May 2015 after pleading guilty to causing or enticing a 13-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity. The order included restrictions on activating social media profiles and contacting girls under 13, along with a requirement to participate in a sexual offenders treatment program.

However, in October of the same year, officers found that Aylott had been using multiple social media profiles under false names, including ‘Jimbob,’ to contact girls as young as 14 and to send them indecent images of himself. This breach of his court-imposed restrictions led to his appearance at Peterborough Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of breaching his order. Judge David Farrell sentenced him to eight months in jail, suspended for two years, citing his progress in the treatment program and the potential benefits of continued therapy for public safety.

Judge Farrell emphasized that while a custodial sentence might seem appropriate, the focus was on ensuring Aylott received the necessary treatment to address his behavior and reduce the risk of reoffending. He warned that any future breaches could result in lengthy imprisonment, stressing the importance of compliance and ongoing participation in the treatment program. Aylott was also ordered to pay £100 in costs, highlighting the judicial system’s efforts to hold him accountable and protect the community from further harm.
