RIO ANTHONY BEARDMORE INVOLVED IN SEXUAL ASSAULT IN NEWQUAY

A 54-year-old man named Rio Anthony Beardmore was involved in a disturbing sexual assault in Newquay. Court reports detail that on September 30, 2023, Beardmore approached two women as they were leaving a building after a day at the beach. The women noticed Beardmore staring at them and walking in their direction before he carried out an unprovoked assault. It was revealed during the hearing that Beardmore asked the women if they wanted to see a magic trick and made inappropriate comments about causing their breasts to jiggle without touching them. Subsequently, he reached over and sexually assaulted one of the women by grabbing her breast while she was experiencing an erection, all without her consent. After the incident, Beardmore left the scene and went to a nearby pub, where police later detained him. The victim expressed her fear and distress, stating that his actions heightened concerns for the safety of other vulnerable women in the community. Despite denying the assault during police interviews and claiming uncertainty about being at the scene, Beardmore pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault. His Honour Judge Simon Carr condemned his conduct, describing it as 'appalling' and stressing that no one should have to feel unsafe walking down the street because of sexual violence. At the time, Beardmore was living a transient lifestyle and struggling with alcohol addiction. He received an 11-month community order, and the court did not require him to register as a sex offender. Prior to sentencing, he had already spent two months in custody.
