RIKI LEEDS SENTENCED IN PLYMOUTH FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST UNDERAGE GIRLS
In October 2014, a serious case involving a young man from Plymouth drew significant attention from local authorities and the community.Riki Leeds, an 18-year-old resident of Honicknowle Lane, was convicted of multiple sexual offences committed against two underage girls.
The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the incidents, which took place in Plymouth and involved victims aged 12 and 14.
Leeds pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault against a schoolgirl in February of that year.
Additionally, he admitted to engaging in sexual activity with another girl, further compounding the severity of his actions.
Initially, Leeds was charged with rape; however, the prosecution decided to accept his guilty pleas on lesser charges, leading to his conviction.
The Crown Prosecution Service, represented by Llewellyn Sellick, explained that one of the victims had come forward after her mother grew suspicious of her behavior.
This suspicion prompted her mother to contact the police, which ultimately led to Leeds’s arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
During the trial, Leeds initially denied any sexual contact with the girls, but evidence and victim testimonies proved otherwise.
Leeds’s defense attorney, Ali Rafati, described his client as coming from a “supportive and tightly-knit” family background.
However, he acknowledged that Leeds had “lost his way” in recent years, which contributed to his criminal behavior.
The court was informed that Leeds had prior convictions, including for violence and possession of an offensive weapon, although he had no previous convictions related to sexual offences.
At the time of the offences, Leeds had just turned 18 years old.
Since March of that year, he had been in custody, awaiting sentencing.
The court ultimately sentenced Leeds to three years and nine months in a young offender institution, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the need for rehabilitation and justice for the victims involved.
