RICO WADE FACES EVEN MORE TIME BEHIND BARS AS A RESULT

Prison staff described the behaviour of an inmate as "vile" and "disgusting" after he repeatedly performed sexual acts.

Rico Wade was convicted at Nottingham Magistrates' Court of seven offences of exposure, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

One involved him behaving inappropriately when looking at a female prison case worker through a window to a door where she was speaking to someone.

She spoke afterwards of being "disgusted, feeling helpless and violated", said prosecutor Andrew Peet.

"She finishes by saying 'she will never be able to forget it'".

Another offence involved him doing a sexual act when staring at a female prison worker, who said the behaviour was "totally unacceptable", said Mr Peet.

He also rang a bell in his cell and a female officer attended and he performed a sexual act when she was at the cell window.

She described his behaviour as "vile, disgusting, unacceptable".

Another offence happened when 32-year-old Wade was escorted to a prison yard and he stared at a worker when he did the act.

Wade already has 37 previous convictions for all sorts of offences - from violence, dishonesty, and four years for robbery in 2005.

In 2010 he received a minimum five-year term for possessing a prohibited firearm and prohibited ammunition.

Since 2015 his offending history has "taken quite a different course", explained Mr Peet.

He now has 13 sexual offences relating to sexual assault or exposure to female prison staff.

"He received relatively short further custodial sentences.

The chronology makes grim reading," added Mr Peet.

By June 2018, Wade, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison for three offences of exposure to prison staff.

Wade's assessment for release was put back by the Parole Board because of the pressure it was under, said Digby Johnson, representing Wade.

He has also been assessed as suitable for transfer to a personality disorder unit and had been scheduled to go on two occasions.

"He was merely stuck in limbo because he was waiting for the Parole Board and detained," said Mr Johnson.

"He needed treatment for his personality disorder and he wasn't getting it.

He reverted to behaviour he first demonstrated in 2016." "He says he'd 'stopped caring' and stopped really having any belief he was ever going to be released.

Other prisoners became increasingly hostile towards him and he was moved to a vulnerable prisoner's wing".

The Parole Board sat down and did not recommend his release - but he was put on a course where he had one-to-one contact with a psychologist.

Judge Stuart Rafferty QC said whether it was a protest of Wade's circumstances or not it had involved "repeated targeting of staff members in a way that can only be described as despicable".

Wade's sentence was two years and he will sign the sex offenders' register.
