RICKY THOMPSON FROM HULL ESCAPES JAIL AFTER TRYING TO MEET CHILD FOR SEX IN 2017
In a case that has shocked the local community of Hull, Ricky Thompson, a 34-year-old resident of Barham Road in east Hull, was involved in a disturbing attempt to meet a child for sexual activity. The incident, which took place in August 2017, led to a lengthy legal process that culminated in Thompson's conviction at Hull Crown Court.
Initially, Thompson denied any involvement in attempting to arrange or commit a child sex offence.
His defense argued that he was innocent of the serious allegations.
However, after a thorough two-day trial, the jury found him guilty of the charge, confirming his intent to meet a minor for sexual purposes.
This verdict was reached after the court carefully examined the evidence presented during the proceedings.
Prior to this trial, Thompson had already admitted to possessing two counts of indecent images of children, which was established during an earlier hearing at the same court.
These previous admissions added to the gravity of his case and highlighted a pattern of concerning behavior.
Following the conclusion of the trial last month, Thompson was released on bail pending sentencing.
On the day of sentencing, which took place yesterday at Hull Crown Court, the judge decided to impose a sentence of ten months in prison, but with a significant condition: the sentence was suspended for two years.
This means that Thompson will not serve time immediately but will be under supervision for the next two years, during which any further misconduct could lead to imprisonment.
In a related development earlier in June 2019, Thompson was found guilty by a jury of attempting to meet a child for a sexual act.
The court proceedings revealed that he had been actively trying to arrange a meeting with a minor, which he had denied initially but was convicted of after the trial.
The court had previously heard that Thompson had pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children, further emphasizing the disturbing nature of his actions.
Thompson was granted bail after the verdicts in June, and his sentencing was scheduled for July 8, 2019.
The case has garnered significant attention in Hull, raising concerns about child safety and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in protecting vulnerable minors from predatory behavior.
