POLICE SERGEANT ADMITS STALKING SOCIAL WORKER WHILE ON DUTY
An Aberdeen police officer, Sergeant Ricky Burr aged 47, faces possible dismissal after admitting to stalking a social worker while on duty.Sergeant Burr appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to causing fear and distress to the woman by making persistent romantic gestures through various methods.
Married with children, Burr admitted to a pattern of conduct that included repeated phone calls and numerous messages sent via social media, which frightened the female social worker.
He also showed up at her workplace at Royal Cornhill Hospital and sent her flowers.
A senior officer from Police Scotland told The Press and Journal that Burr’s actions are contrary to the core values of the police force and indicated that misconduct proceedings are now likely.
The court also heard that Burr, who was part of the Hazlehead and West End Policing Team, contacted the woman via her work email after being blocked on social media.
Some of his conduct occurred while he was on duty as a police officer.
Additionally, Burr was charged with accessing information through police systems and databases that related directly or indirectly to the victim.
He pleaded not guilty to that particular charge, a denial which was accepted by the Crown.
Following his guilty plea, Sheriff Robert Carr postponed sentencing to allow for a social work report to evaluate Burr’s case.
A hearing to determine his sentence is scheduled for early August.
