RICHARD WALBY FROM UXBRIDGE SENTENCED TO 23 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN CORNWALL AND ESSEX

In a case that has shocked the local community and beyond, Richard Walby, a 48-year-old man from Uxbridge, Middlesex, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 23 years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. The crimes, which spanned over several years, involved grooming, sexual assault, and abuse of a vulnerable 11-year-old girl whom he met at dance classes in the early 2000s.

Walby’s criminal actions first came to light during the trial at Truro Crown Court, where evidence revealed that he had begun abusing the girl when she was just 11 years old. The abuse escalated when she turned 12, with Walby engaging in sexual acts with her. During the period of abuse, he also used alcohol as a means to manipulate and make her more compliant, a tactic that compounded the trauma inflicted upon her. The court heard that Walby continued to abuse her over a span of two years, causing lasting damage to her mental health and well-being.

The court proceedings detailed that Walby’s offenses were not isolated incidents but part of a pattern of predatory behavior. He was found guilty of three counts of indecent assault, four counts of gross indecency with a girl under 14, three counts of having sex with a child under 13, and five counts of rape. These charges reflected the severity and repeated nature of his crimes.

While the primary focus was on the abuse of the young girl in Uxbridge, the court also heard about other related offenses. The jury was informed that Walby’s criminal activities extended beyond the local area, with allegations of rape involving an adult woman in Cornwall and Essex between January 2000 and April 2004. The court noted that Walby’s criminal history included targeting the first victim during the 1990s, with the initial assault occurring when she was 11, followed by sexual relations when she was 12, at a time when Walby was in his mid-twenties.

Judge Carr, presiding over the case, described the impact of Walby’s actions as “devastating” for the victim. The judge highlighted that the girl had made several attempts to end her life, underscoring the profound psychological scars left by Walby’s abuse. The judge also emphasized that Walby viewed sex as his right, a disturbing assertion that justified the harshness of the sentence.

In addition to the prison term, Walby was ordered to serve an extra year on license after his release. Furthermore, he was mandated to sign the sex offenders register for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the public from further harm. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating effects of child abuse and the importance of justice for victims.
