RICHARD USHER

A care worker named Richard Usher has been disqualified from the Scottish Social Services Council after being convicted of several allegations involving abuse and aggressive conduct directed at elderly residents at Lennel House in Coldstream.

An investigation corroborated about twelve claims, which included causing fear and discomfort among both residents and staff members.

It was reported that Usher used foul language, shouted at residents, acted aggressively, and once held a pad contaminated with feces mere inches from a resident’s face during his shifts.

Usher did not attend the Scottish Social Services Council hearing last week but submitted a written denial of all charges, asserting that he was a whistleblower raising concerns about colleagues’ working practices.

His defense was rejected, and the panel ruled that his behavior endangered residents’ physical and emotional well-being, resulting in his removal from the professional register.

Testimonies from a fellow care worker, a staff nurse, and the care home manager supported the panel’s decision, confirming his involvement in verbal and physical abuse.
