A Carlisle man was verdicted today (September 10) at Carlisle Crown Court, where he was sentenced to prison for crimes involving indecent images.

Richard Lawrie, 50 years old and a resident of Tribune Drive, Houghton, was sentenced to two years for ten criminal offences.

These included creating indecent child images, possessing extreme pornographic material, and neglecting to meet the notification requirements of the sex offenders register.

He was arrested in June 2025.

PC Andrew Minnion from Cumbria’s Management of Sexual & Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) team stated: “Lawrie is considered a dangerous offender, found in possession of 350 Category A images on his devices, and sharing images with others.

"Every child depicted in these images has been a victim of abuse.

“There is no justification for viewing or distributing such content, and authorities are committed to bringing offenders to justice to safeguard children.” The Cumbria MOSOVO team affirms its dedication to overseeing sexual offenders and maintains a zero-tolerance stance on violations of their registration obligations.
